A Special Day in Three Ways
Dec 10th, 2008 by Capsun
Scroll down for the contest!
First of all, today is Human Rights Day. It is an international celebration of the United Nations’ adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on this day in 1948. As the Presidential Proclamation states, today we can:
…reaffirm our deep commitment to helping those whose desire for liberty and justice is still dismissed and denied.
So on that note, I can move on to the second way today is special. I have written about Prop H8te before (here and here and here). And some of those most upset about the Prop H8te results in California want to use today as a “Day without a Gay” to keep the issue in the limelight and to use it as a service opportunity in our communities. From their website:
NOW, it’s time to show America and the world how we love.
Gay people and our allies are compassionate, sensitive, caring, mobilized, and programmed for success. A day without gays would be tragic because it would be a day without love.
THE CONTEST
Finally, and this is the best part, I’m going to have a Christmas Contest!!! Here’s the deal: all you have to do is leave a comment on this post sharing your favorite memory of The Real Aloha Airlines. Please keep the memories positive; while I despise Mesa/go! Airlines, this contest isn’t about them, but to honor The Real Aloha. I will select the comment that I like the best. The prize? You mean bragging rights aren’t enough? In addition to bragging rights and making a post out of the winning entry, I am offering a $10 Starbucks gift card, which I will mail to the winner or deliver in person if we make such arrangements.
This contest will close on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 6 pm Hawaii Time. That is well over one week from today. Comments/entries received after that time, while appreciated, will not be considered for the contest. The winner will be announced the following day, Friday, December 19.
Here’s all the “fine print” and reminder stuff:
- By participating, you agree that I can share your comment in a future post, and mention either your username or first name.
- In order to qualify, you must leave a valid email address in the proper field. It doesn’t need to be in the actual comment, just the email field. Only I will be able to see it, and I need it to notify the winner.
- Not responsible for lost or stolen card in the mail; if I mail it to you, that’s good enough for me.
- Limited to mailing addresses within the United States. I only want to use one stamp.
- Void where prohibited, taxed, etc.
Good luck, happy commenting, and I look forward to reading your memories and tributes to The Real Aloha!
Mahalo!

My favorite memory of Aloha Airlines was the friendly people, great inflight magazine in Spirit of Aloha, and of course, the POG (passion, orange, guava juice). Of course the days of interisland travel before 9/11 when you could just show up at the airport 10 minutes before your flight were pretty cool too. If you missed your flight, just jump on the next one 30 minutes later. My how times have changed. I now fly Hawaiian Airlines exclusively. Happy Holidays.
hey capsun! glad i stumbled onto your blog; it seems like you’re doing so well!
sorry that i forgot to enter your contest earlier…i think i’m past the deadline. what a generous blogger!
for the sake of sharing, though, i mostly remember being so surprised to receive their yummy warm cookies. and SO happy!
not sure if it was hawaiian or aloha that the nso gang flew on to get to the UH football game in maui. either way, i loved the vomit bag that karina & mike decorated for me — and they were so cute to put a pog juice in the bag too!
Whew! I am glad somebody qualified to win the card. You were just too intense about this to drink any of that coffee yourself!
Oh — you might have gotten more takers with a “Tell About Your Worst Experience on Go/Mesa Airlines” contest.
