If You Do Not Change, You Can Become Extinct.”

Movement In a New Diretion Helps You Find New Cheese.”

-Spencer Johnson, M.D., in Who Moved My Cheese?

If you’re reading this post, that means you’ve successfully made the transition from my old blog at WordPress.com to my new domain here.  I thank you for your continued readership and support.  I also apologize for doing this with no warning in advance. I fully intended to transition to capsun.org over the course of several days.  However, the opportunity presented itself to get it all up and running yesterday, so I hope you understand that I had to jump at it.

First, let me say Mahalo Nui Loa, Thank You Very Much, Domo Arigato Gozaimasu, and Danke Schoen to my good friend, Sid Savara.  Haven’t I ever told you that I know people?  Not only is he hosting this domain, he also helped me for a solid four hours yesterday to get everything up and running.  Even my new email address is working!  I guess it’s part of what we do for friends.  Sid is available to do the same for you and your site – for a fee, of course.

Just about everything should look the same. Don’t worry, it’s the same blog, written by the same author – me!.  In fact, all of my posts from WordPress.com have been transferred here at capsun.org.  The biggest change is the new image header you see at the top of Capsun’s Corner.  Gone is the Aloha Airlines plane; here to take it’s place is a beautiful shot of Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park.  It holds special meaning to me because that was my old stomping ground and because I actually took that picture myself.  If you really explored the sidebar at my old site, you’ll also notice that the “Popular Posts” and “Capsun’s Controls” widgets are gone.  The former because I didn’t download and transfer it here, the latter for security reasons.

I’m still doing some tweaking. I will most likely change my theme, probably by the end of this month.  It also displays slightly smaller here than it did at WordPress.com, but I hope to fix that, too.  As much as I love MistyLook, I’m looking for something that might be a little easier to read and won’t display full posts, but rather the first paragraph or so.  In the back of the house, I’ve installed Feedburner, but still need to get it working properlywhich works as it’s supposed to, as of 9:30 this morning.  I also have Google Analytics and it’s running just fine; I hope a lot of you come to visit so I’ll have a plethora of data to review.

I need to decide if and how I might monetize this site. With my new online home, I have new “rent” to pay.  And maybe I can finally give in to the intimations of a certain someone.  I don’t need to do this for income replacement, but I do want to make this site revenue neutral.  It will be my homegrown version of PAYGO – how’s that for a political reference?

So to all of my old readers who have made the transition:  Mahalo for moving with me.  And to any new readers:  Welcome and mahalo for visiting.  I look forward to keeping all of this up.  2009 is certainly proving to be a year with lots to talk about.

Mahalo!

I never seem to hear about the meetups, tweetups, etc until they are in mid party. Why is that?

oOo...pretty. your blog is much prettier than Sid's now

Sid: I have no idea how the borders came out that way, but yes I do like them. What I don't like is the way the captions come out. Oh well, more tweaking to do. I didn't even notice the copyright thing. That is spiffy!

Niki: Too funny! Thanks for visiting and sharing your comment. Glad you like the layout. Now, what about the content? Go easy on me...

Congrats on the move. Glad to see you managed to add some of the other bells and whistles you liked - it's all polished!

Also, I love the cool borders your pictures have. Did you do that? Did we somehow do that? Who knows, I like it. My blog doesn't have it on gravars - I kind of wish it did =)

I also like how it says Capsun's Corner (c) 2009 at the bottom. Spiffy.

Okay, do you know why I went to PodCamp? To learn all the things everybody but me knows. How do I make the ftp work? Why are all the directions written in a language I don't speak? You see, I am not a Geek. I would like to be a Geek but I don't speak Geekese.

I got this dang new -- expensive -- site and I can't figure out how to add widgets, change my template or post video. I am in worse shape now than I was at WordPress, because 1) they were free and 2) I didn't have to admit I'm an idiot.

Your blog looks great. I am green with jealousy.

quilly: Dear green with jealousy...oh, I'm just kidding. Not knowing doesn't make you an idiot. And, Google can be your best friend in such instances. Maybe the next meetup, Tweetup, Flickr Friday, Manoa Geeks would be a good opportunity. Or maybe the upcoming unconferenz.com in February (small fee of $25).

Very nice. The image header is great. Congrats on the move.

I'm so lucky to have my one and only advertiser.

I'm so hard up... I've even tried "Damon Dollars"

http://damontucker.wordpress.com/damon-dollars/

damon and Thom: Mahalo for visiting capsun.org and for your first-time comments. Hope you'll keep coming back for more. You know, to be my enablers.

damon: Oh no, now you tell me. I like your Damon Dollars idea. I notice you don't have Google AdSense, but I know some bloggers get negative reactions when using it. So, I'm still undecided. Here's a thorough article someone shared with me about monetizing: http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2006/05/how-to-make-money-from-your-blog/

Thom: Glad you like it. Others have also given me positive feedback, so it does make me happy to have something that takes me back to all my childhood memories.
