Wraps & Rolls Revisited

“So if you want to start off your New Year right, then you…come here.”

-Laarni, owner of Wraps & Rolls

I went to visit my old assistant Laarni, at her shop, Wraps & Rolls, which I previously wrote about earlier this month. So what’s so special about that? I took my camera, and my appetite. Unlike last time when I only took iPhone pictures and then didn’t take pictures of the food itself.  This time, Laarni had her brother-in-law Ben helping out, as well as her daughter Lindsey.

Laarni even has a printout of the aforementioned blog post prominently displayed in the front of the shop.

On the day I visited, Manolo Morales of Channel 2 News was supposed to swing by to interview her as part of his segment on visiting restaurants. But due to the expected high winds that really didn’t pan out, he had to reschedule, needing to cover weather-related stories instead. He was supposed to go there today, but changed the plan again.  Otherwise, this post would have gone up yesterday.  You can check out footage here of his visit to Wraps & Rolls yesterday.  And Lindsey again dutifully showed up to help mom; in fact, she was the one preparing the rolls.

The portions are huge, but it’s filled with vegetables and rice noodle, not with greasy, salty meats.  Even Manolo proclaims, “Wraps & Rolls – it’s a mouthful.”  So the bulk of the meal is healthy filler.  And almost all of the items are under $3 – that’s a pretty good deal.

Here’s what I ordered:

dsc03948small

  • Somen Supreme ($2.80) with char siu, kamaboko, cucumbers, somen noodles and a soy miso dressing
  • Chinese Chicken ($2.70) with cucumbers, carrots, Chinese parseley/cilantro, almonds, and Mandarin orange dressing

  • California Crab ($2.60) with avocado, cucumber, and a creamy wasabi dressing
  • Simply Salmon ($3) with watercress and a soy miso dressing

  • Shrimp-n-Mint ($3.00) with shrimp and a sweet-sour peanut dressing
  • Tasty Tuna ($2.50) with cucumber, carrots, and a creamy wasabi dressing

The Simply Salmon was my favorite, by far – and it is one of their most popular choices.  The Tasty Tuna was sweet, which, while unexpected, was also quite good, and I normally prefer savory over sweet – thus my choice for favorite. And they all come overflowing with some lettuce, making for a tasty, but healthy meal.

So, what are you waiting for?  Go get some tasty, healthy food at Wraps & Rolls.  Pay them a visit or give them a call.  And if you do go there, please tell her Capsun sent you.

  • Location:  1425 Liliha St. in the Liliha Square Shopping Center, near Times Liliha and American Savings Bank Liliha
  • Hours:  Monday-Friday, 9-3; Saturday, 10-2
  • Phone:  808-535-WRAP (9727)

Now I’m getting hungry for some.

Mahalo!

I'm hungry!

I wish they were open on Sundays. The church I attend is just down the street! I am also there Mondays at 6:00 p.m. ....

I'll get there -- someday -- even though her working hours seem to be the same as mine!

Thom: I'm telling ya, it's good and it's healthy! Do tell Laarni I sent you if you go.

quilly: You just have to take a day off. I was sick, tired, and carless today. Luckily, my chauffeur was willing to stop there to pick some up. What a great way to start feeling better! She's been non-stop busy since Manolo stopped by, so maybe wait a couple weeks before you try.

Mmm Mmm good. Looks great. I'm going to have to go make a visit to this place :)
