I’m going to try a new format for Props and Slops posts. Here are the top and bottom performers as I saw them this week:
PROPS
- Adobe and Apple for working together to bring Flash to the iPhone. This will bring significant improvements to the web browsing capabilities on the iPhone as so many websites use flash technology.
- Local companies and government agencies for still hiring during this economic downturn. The list includes the U.S. Census Bureau, Island Air, the Apple Store, Boots & Kimo’s, and MobiPCS.
- Hawaiian Airlines for adding touchscreen seat-back entertainment systems this year. Mahalo to the Beat of Hawaii and Beyond blog for the tip.
- Kupuaina Coalition for their activism, outreach, and education efforts on everything related to “Ceded” Lands.
- Maoli News for their excellent coverage of Kupuaina’s efforts as well as almost anything related to Native Hawaiians.
- Save The Words, a project of the Oxford English Dictionary, that lets English-speakers save words they don’t want to lose. It’s a pretty nifty site. One word that jumped out at me was “ten-cent store” – I don’t know if I want to save the word or the concept more.
SLOPS
- The economy for derailing a State website that was supposed to track government spending. This is just too ironic.
PROP AND SLOP OF THE WEEK
- Prop of the Week: Ian Lind, Hawaii’s quintessential daily blogger and investigative reporter extraordinaire, for a few different reasons this week. First, for capturing a picture of the burglar who broke into his home in the beginning of the week. Second, it also led to the suspect’s arrest yesterday. The best part is that the camera that caught the person is the one Ian uses to check on his cats while he’s not home. Finally, for pointing out all the misleading information and conclusions in the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii’s pork report.
- Slop of the Week: The bungled handling of Aloha Airlines’s trade name. Thanks to The Kona Blog and Ian Lind for the tips. Of course, the good news is that Mesa Air Group’s quest to takeover the Aloha name has been delayed, if not defeated. As I’ve said before, please fly Hawaiian Airlines, Island Air, or Mokulele Airlines for your inter-island air travel needs.
That’s it for this week. Be sure to visit next week for another edition of Props and Slops, my favorite feature on Capsun’s Corner.
Mahalo!

Thom: Don't forget to tryout pastebud for a workaround copy and paste. I wrote about it in a past post. "Boo to Mesa Air Group." - best quote I've heard this week!
