Talk about Capsun being late to the party! The event will be held in less than a week from today, on February 12, 2009 at 5 pm at Oceans 808 (the former Ocean’s at Restaurant Row). Visit the site to buy tickets, priced at $20. I say I’m late because a lot of buzz has been going on for a while already:
- Many have joined the conversation on Twitter
- Fellow Tweep/blogger and travel agent Bruce Fisher has already written about it
- 808Talk has covered it
- The ever-present and ever-helpful NEENZ promoted it
- Our local Twestival has its own Twitter account (@HITwestival) and Flickr tag ready to go
- And finally, our Twestival has its own wiki (a collaborative info page) – pretty cool, huh?
So what’s all the fuss about? The Hawaii/Honolulu Twestival is part of a larger social media movement to support charity: water, an international group that wants to give every person the opportunity to access safe drinking water. So, it’s a perfect fit for Hawaii, where we are completely surrounded by the ocean. And yes, I do know that seawater is not potable, but it was for dramatic effect.
While this started with geeks and those involved in social media (I guess I fall into both categories), this event is not limited to geeks and social media folks. The more the merrier, right? And don’t worry if you don’t have a Twitter account (should that be Twaccount?), aren’t on Facebook, or don’t have a LinkedIn profile. There will be enough of us there to tell you all about how to get setup. And with the iPhone-heavy presence I’m expecting, we can probably get you signed up right there.
Finally, if you’re worried because it’s at a club, don’t. I’m definitely not one of the cool kids, but they’re letting me in! So why don’t you come join us? It should be a blast, be dope, FTW, or whatever adjective will get you to attend!
Mahalo!
