439 hits!

That’s right!  I got 439 visitors blogging about David Archuleta the other day.  That translated to 571 page views, which means some in the “Archuleta Army” actually looked around Capsun’s Corner and didn’t just come to defend his honor.  Please note, that’s about one week’s worth of visitors, so it has to be my David Archuleta post that brought all the traffic.

So how do I know how many people visited?
I run Google Analytics that tracks all sorts of information about visitors to Capsun’s Corner.  It’s a data cruncher’s dream come true.  I can tell you all sorts of things about my visitors from that day:

  • The average visitor stayed for 1 minute, 13 seconds.
  • 177 of them use the Firefox browser, just like me.  Haven’t heard of Firefox, or don’t use it?  You should check it out.
  • 92 were from outside of the United States.
  • Curiously, 1 used a dial-up connection.  I didn’t know people used those anymore, and with the photo, it must have taken a while to load, so I thank the visitor who did.

Stats aside, I have to give myself slops for not enforcing my own rule on comments:

My policy on comments is to approve them all, with the exception of personal attacks or profanity, which have no place in Capsun’s Corner and will be deleted.

Granted, I’m not a David Archuleta fan, but many of the comments were of a personal attack nature and should not have been approved.  For that, I apologize.  I will leave them up so that readers may reference them.  In the future, however, I will be more careful about noting personal attacks and not approving those messages no matter who you are.  Tuesday was the first day I ever witnessed attacks here, so it took a little while to register that I publicly stated it was one of the two things I wouldn’t tolerate, profanity being the other.  At least I erred on the side of allowing public discourse instead of censoring it, until I remembered my policy.

I’m a big proponent of the First Amendment – you know, the one that has Freedom of Speech, and of the Press.  After all, I’m a blogger.  But remember also that this is my personal space and you have to play by my rules if you want to play here at all.  If you disagree, you’re more than welcome to do so on your own space.  Hey, if you’ve got something to say, go for it. You can even start your own blog!  And by all means, disagree with me.  I mean, most of my closest friends completely disagree with me on politics and other issues we discuss.

I really am disappointed in some of the visitors, both old and new, for their remarks.  Probably worst of all were the ones who insulted my fiancee. Yes, I didn’t like the inconvenience of the adventure, but that was no reason to call her names, people!  We are going to get married later this year, and we’re a package deal, for better or worse.

Let’s hope that’s the end of it, and the end of David Archuleta on Capsun’s Corner.

Mahalo!

damon: Don't worry. Wow, 18K! I don't have that many total hits. Impressive.

Thom: Not offended. Actually I liked your comment the most, it's going to be on my Props list (as long as I don't forget it).

quilly: You've said everything I wanted to, and much more succinctly.

Mahalo to you all for your continued readership and support.

I do believe that differing opinions have a place in blog comments, but that differing opinion should be couched in terms of respect. I was very surprised by some of the unkind comments made in response to your post. Name calling and labeling are never appropriate responses and, to me, do more to label the name caller than the one being attacked.

Hi Capsun. Congrats on the stats. I'm very happy for you. I can only hope one day I hit 20 LOL. I guess I just do this for the fun of it and getting to know people like you and Quilly to name a few.

I want to apologize if I have offended you in anyway with my remark. I don't think I did but if I did, many apologies. I'm new at this blogging and possibly I have a wrong idea about what it is all about.

I thought a blog was the author's personal diary, opinion etc on a certain topic. When you post it it becomes fair game for anyone to comment on. Whether or not the author disagree, I do believe that they have a right to their opinion. As you so eloquently stated about first amendment rights. I wouldn't think that you would require the opinion that disagrees with yours to be posted somewhere else.

It's very hard to have to sit back and read things about people that we love and care for that are hurtful, spiteful or down right hateful. But that to me is part of the territory about blogging. Yes I agree with you in that the owner/author of the blog can set the rules for his/her blog but I would think also that would be to allow comments good or bad as well.

I dunno that's just my opinion. I disagree with a lot of your politics but I do love reading about it. It's like a stimulus to me and I do get to see a side that might, just might persuade me to think about the certain issue in a certain way. What I would hope for is that I wouldn't have to go to my blog and post my disagreement only there. I would hope I could proudly do it on your blog and enjoy a lively debate, conversation.

Aloha my friend.

Capsun -

I hope you know that Comment #5 by the "Damon" in the Archuletta blog was not me (Damon Tucker).

Other then that... congrats on the amount of hits. Last week when I blogged about the BJ Penn fight the day of the fight... it almost freaked me out when more then 18,000 people rushed my blog!

I thought there was some kid in a third world country getting paid $.01 for every 100 times he clicked on my site or something!
