HITwestival Raises Over $6,000!
Feb 13th, 2009 by Capsun
Mahalo to anyone and everyone who supported last night’s HITwestival, which I previously promoted. Through your support in money, time, and effort, we raised over $6,000 for charity: water. About $4,000 were from the 200 tickets sold, another $1,000 from AIG Hawaii, and $1,000 from an anonymous donor. Some additional funds that weren’t quite tabulated were raised from the lucky number drawing.
Oh, and my cousin won a free trip for two and a car on the Hawaii Superferry. We’re already planning a trip to Maui! So, a big success in my book.
Many thanks and congratulations to @hawaii, @VBrown, @NEENZ, @alohaTammi and all the other Honolulu Twestival planners for their hard work and efforts. It was a great event, with great music, great food, and great company. It really is a sight to see 200 geeks at a club like Oceans 808! It was nice to meet so many of my fellow Tweeps in real life (IRL), especially those who were new to Twitter like @alohagadetgal or attended their first Tweetup like @tsiruno. But we had loads of fun. Perhaps a little too much – I’m exhausted. It was all for a good cause, so it’s all good as far as I’m concerned.
Special props to KGMB9 for sponsoring the event and @KGMB9 for dropping by for a little while even though he was double-booked and had to head out to his next event. Also to @lavasusan for doing the same – she had a class to teach. Finally, good job to @AndyBumatai and @DJMaleko for the great job they did emceeing and keeping the crowd going.
I plan to post photos from the event on my photo blog later, but here was the musical line-up:
- Guy Cruz (@GuyCruz), which I actually missed because we showed up at 5:30. Bummer, I was looking forward to hearing him perform.
- Anuhea Jenkins (@anuheajams), a beautiful and youthful voice from Maui. She’s currently selling her album on MySpace, so she may very well be our local version of the next Lisa Loeb (in the rise to success, not the musical styling).
- Mailani Makainai of Keahiwai (@Mailani) who always puts on a great show. And I’m not just saying that because I’ve known her since high school.
- Jama Hang, a local band
- And finally, great band Sunset, that closed the night out with a bang and also features Chris Luna (@diverdown) on guitar and doing vocals.
And if you missed it, you’re in luck. Neenz is already talking about holding one again next year. At the Waikiki Shell. So, you’ve been warned. Time to start saving up for next year’s event. Remember, for just pennies a day, you can support a great cause.
Mahalo!

Congrats Capsun. Job well done. I had to LOL when I read that “we” are already planning a trip when your cousin won. Made my day. Again, Congrats.
Gratz, Capsun!

Wish I coulda gotten there .. but next year for sure.
