“Love hurts, love scars, love wounds and mars
Any heart not tough nor strong enough
To take a lot of pain, take a lot of pain,
Love is like a cloud, holds a lot of rain …..
Love hurts ……
Oooh …… love hurts.”
-First verse of “Love Hurts” as performed by Nazareth
From some of the articles out on the web, you’d think a lot of people felt this way. There may be some truth to it, for some people, but I’ve seen it the other way, too. Just check out this creative, romantic, and cost-effective way one couple does Valentine’s gift-giving.
Valentine’s Day seems to be equally loved and loathed. Loved by those with a special someone to spend the day with, romantics, and perhaps females. Loathed by those without a romantic partner, those jilted by lovers, and perhaps males. Then there’s me, somewhere in the middle. While I don’t loathe the day, I also don’t love it – probably indicative of my serious, issue-oriented nature. I think it’s important to celebrate if you have someone to enjoy it with, which I do, and have had for the last nine years.
If you’re single and still reading, this section is for you. I have actually spent several Valentine’s Days with some of my single guy friends, with my fiancee in tow. Some might say that’s not romantic, but I disagree. While there are 364 other days you can be romantic with your mate, today can be a very lonely and painful day for those without one, just as the holidays can be trying times for those without families with which to celebrate. Why not show true love and affection for your friends and family by spending time with them? And I don’t mean this in a pity invite sort of way. I’ve actually had some of the most Valentine’s Day fun with a group of folks. If you know my fiancee’s first name, you also know she has her own day, so we often use that occasion to celebrate a second Valentine’s Day of sorts.
So what are we doing this year? I actually have to work today, so all week we were trying to see if we could do something on Friday to celebrate. Little did I know, but my fiancee already had an idea of what she wanted: a nice juicy steak and some mashed sweet potatoes…from Ruth’s Chris Steak House. Luckily, they had a special, so while it was an indulgence, it didn’t break the bank. So last night, that’s what we ate and did: had an impromptu early Valentine’s Day dinner. The meal was to die for (we love that place), the company was great (it better be if we’re getting married!), and it is probably the most spontaneous (aka romantic) thing we’ve done in a long time. A great way to celebrate our ninth Valentine’s Day together.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
Mahalo!

Hey! I was here, read this, and thought I left a comment! I'm losing my mind!
Charley cooked dinner for me tonight. Tomorrow night we are going to Roy's. This afternoon we went to The Shack. I am spoiled.
Charley? Oh, I bought him a lei to wear when he performed in church today -- and I waited on him all day long. He didn't even have to fill his own water glass. And I did the dishes THREE TIMES while he was cooking. That man sure can use them dishes!
