Props and Slops: February 9-15

IN MEMORIAM

  • Corky Trinidad, longtime Honolulu Star-Bulletin editorial cartoonist. (February 13)  I will definitely miss his cartoons and his wit, which never lost its edge.

Now, here are the top and bottom performers as I saw them this week:

PROPS

  • Thom, a frequent commenter and local bus driver, for this comment about my David Archuleta postYou know Cap…welcome to married life a little early….:) Thanks for the chuckle and the good advice!
  • Our State House for passing the civil unions bill that would extend married couples’ rights to same-sex partners.  Jerry Burris even discusses how this could be good for the economy,
  • Google for bringing additional features (add, edit, sort, filter) to Google Documents on mobile devices.  Prior to this, the documents were read-only.
  • Noor Al-Fayez for being the first woman appointed to the Saudi Council of Ministers, by King Abdullah.

SLOPS

  • The people behind http://draftstormy.com/ (LSFW, especially if someone recognizes her).  Just to clarify, Stormy Daniels is a porn star.  I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when I saw this news.  Not that I want to trample on a fellow citizen’s right to run for office.  But…as if there wasn’t enough fodder to use against our elected officials already!

PROP AND SLOP OF THE WEEK

  • Prop of the WeekEveryone on who helped plan, supported, and/or attended the Honolulu Twestival. And according to Ryan Ozawa, it raised over $7,000!  Good job everyone.  And to the Hawaii Superferry who donated a trip for 2 and a car, which my cousin won.
  • Slop of the WeekConservative commentator and author Ann Coulter for being under investigation for voter fraud in Connecticut. Apparently, she voted in Connecticut while living in New York City – which is illegal.  Disclaimer (in the style of COPS):  All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.  Bad Ann, bad Ann, watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do when they come for you? Click here if you didn’t get that.

That’s it for this week.  Be sure to visit next week for another edition of Props and Slops, my favorite feature on Capsun’s Corner.

Mahalo!

I too will miss Corky Trinidad. My favorite cartoon editorial drawn by him was in 2002 when Linda Lingle was running for governor the first time. It showed her with a sour face as she had to eat Garlic Diningding -- satirical comment on racial politics in Hawaii. I wish I could find it on the Star Bulletin website but alas, no luck.

LOL Quilly...###*&)(*&@)(*@&)(*@&

Thom: Interesting question - I don't have a definitive answer. I would only add that we don't ask heterosexual couples why they are getting married.

quilly: Glad you and Thom agreed about Ann Coulter.

Ann Coulter -- what Thom said. [shudder]

Thanks for the prop. Greatly appreciated.

In regards to the civil unions bill...if two straight men or straight women want to be a couple does this apply to them? They are same sex maybe just not sharing the same bed and that further deepens my thought in that if it doesn't is all you have to say is you are gay or lesbian and you can get the benefits and what proof do you need? Just a thought. At least it's progress.

Ann Coulter is well...too much for decent words.

Congrats to the Honolulu Twestival!!! Job well done.

P.S. Earth so glad you got to enjoy your Valentines. Was an excellent comment to your future hubby :) I wish you both the best
