PROPS
- New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo for sharing details of the AIG bonus scandal with the public.
- Republic Airways for taking a 50% ownership stake in Mokulele. You know, instead of letting them fail. Thank goodness Mesa Air Group’s go! Airlines will continue to have competition.
- Thom, one of my frequent readers, for his comment on my “You Be the Judge” post. You can check out all of his other thoughts on his blog. This thought definitely got me to look at the situation in a whole new light and recognize that we may have become so politically correct and so litigious that we can’t even share a couple laughs at the office. Now get back to work, you lazy bums!

I’m sort of torn on this issue. I tend to blame our society as a whole because all it takes is one person to get offended by such and email and the content it contains and they go and either complain to the company or go to an attorney to sue. So companies, including the state and federal governments have had to set guidelines to not accept this kind of email and make work just a work place where people cannot just let loose for a couple of minutes a day and send this kind of silly email out. However, on the other end of the spectrum there are those in an office situation, that don’t use common sense and judgment and send out much raunchier emails, porn and sex, during work hours that I don’t think should be sent out during that time and shouldn’t be allowed to be sent using company email.
It’s all a common sense issue. I would have gotten your response I would have just taken you off the mailing list. Period over and out. My emailing list when I send out emails, if people don’t like it, hopefully they will tell me so I can use the delete button. I just think that companies have gone to far, or have been pushed to go to these lengths to have to prohibit such emailing at work.
Where does it ever end? Society as a whole has gotten way out of hand with their “rights” and we as a society have permitted it. Frivilous law suits have been a major cause and we allow them to proceed.
- PBS Hawaii for posting the video of their Island Insights show on Thursday. Now, people like me who didn’t catch it can watch it.
- State Rep. Maile Shimabukuro for posting an interesting list of Ceded Land sales and transfers since 1998.
- And finally, to me, for posting those previous two stories before Maoli News, a blog I’ve written about before and I’ve come to depend on for news about the Native Hawaiian community.
SLOPS
- AIG for wanting to pay those above-mentioned bonuses. Now that we taxpayers own 80% of the company, they should get used to public scrutiny. “Business as usual” is no longer sustainable, and they need to get that message loud and clear. And yes, I do use one of their competitors for my insurance.
- Our Honolulu, for being named 66th (out of 124) in a quality of life survey. I’m pretty sure our high cost of living had something to do with it.
PROP AND SLOP OF THE WEEK
- Prop of the Week: Apple for announcing the much-anticipated iPhone OS 3.0 Software. eThis will finally bring cut and paste (and copy!) to the iPhone as well as built-in Voice Memos and the ability to sync Notes. rest
- Slop of the Week: Sheryl, the woman working at the counter at Genki Sushi Ala Moana on Saturday afternoon. If it’s bad enough for me to Tweet it, you bet I’m going to put it here on Props and Slops. Here’s what I said then: SLOPS: Receiving really bad service at Genki Sushi Ala Moana. Sheryl at counter is snappy & dismissive. Then forgets some of our order! And to top it all off, it took another 10 minutes for them to give us the rest of the order. We were ordering take out, so by the time we got to eat it, most of our sushi was warm (when it should be cool) and soggy (when it should be crunchy). Because of this incident, Genki Sushi is now on “Capsun’s Black List” – not a good place to be as I’ll have to boycott them. Shoddy service in *THIS* economy is unacceptable!
That’s it for this week. Be sure to visit next week for another edition of Props and Slops, my favorite feature on Capsun’s Corner.
Mahalo!
