(A Very Tardy) Props and Slops: March 23-29

HAWAII

  • PropsKITV for running a series of stories following up with former Aloha Airlines employees as we approached the one year anniversary of its demise.
  • Slops: Mesa Air Group’s go! Airlines. Why?  Well, why not?  I’m sure they’ve done something or messed up somewhere that would warrant this.  For starters, their role in helping to drive Aloha out of business in the first place.  Not that they were entirely to blame, but it did help to put the final nail in the coffin.

GEEK/TECH/BLOG

POLITICS/GOVERNMENT

  • PropsThe Hawaii Legislative Reference Bureau Library for getting the latest version of the 2009 Directory of State, County and Federal Officials.  It contains department and agency directory listings, including office, title, phone & fax numbers, and mail and email addresses.  If you’re trying to contact anyone in government in Hawaii, this is the resource for you.
    • Honorable MentionThe U.S. Mint for issuing our first Braille silver dollar. With so many people with visual impairments, it makes me wonder why we didn’t do it earlier.
  • SlopsGov. Linda Lingle for trying to cut state worker pay to balance the budget.  As one of my co-workers has said, making public employees shoulder the burden of closing the deficit is “business as usual” is coming true.  Interestingly, there are many other solutions that Gov. Lingle is not considering; is it just that she’s using this as a union-busting attempt?  If only AQ McElrath were here with us to help stand up against this.

PROP AND SLOP OF THE WEEK

  • Prop of the Week:  State Sen. (and Lt. Governor candidate) Gary Hooser for attempting to bring Civil Union legislation to the floor of the Hawaii State Senate.
  • Slop of the Week:   My co-worker, MJ, for not knowing the name of my Props and Slops feature (my favorite part of Capsun’s Corner). She called it “Logs and Bogs” and “Blogs and Logs” – you know, anything but the correct name.  I shouldn’t be too hard on her, because it does mean she reads my blog, but I couldn’t resist. :-)

That’s it for this week.  Be sure to visit next week for another edition of Props and Slops, my favorite feature on Capsun’s Corner.

Mahalo!

Quilly: Oops! Submitted too soon. I meant to say that *sometimes* I'm surprised people care to read my opinions.

John: Thanks for visiting and posting a comment. Mr. Hawaii (aka Ryan) and his efforts to have all of us get our geek on is not lost on me. I'm a big fan!

Thom: Thank you for your continued comments, even when I'm not giving you many posts to comment on.

Quilly: Ack! OK, I have to admit that I went to Kona for about a week and was on iPhone only, so I couldn't access my usual tools. I'll go track down that post. You don't need to explain yourself to me - I appreciate your readership and interaction. Honestly, it surprises me that anyone takes an interest in what I have to say.

OC's post the other day drew the attention of both Senator Hooser and Ian Lind. I was surprised you missed it!

And, I read all of your posts even if I don't click through to your blog and comment. For awhile I was too sick to expend the energy, and the last couple of posts I haven't felt sufficiently enough educated to respond to.

Better late than never. I cannot believe that Google even has an arrow point to it. LOL Three cheers for Senator Hooser and your friend at work...what a riot

Rock on, Capsun! This is a pretty cool blog feature. Nice re-cap of the week.

Glad you could make it to Manoa Geeks! Ryan (@hawaii) deserves some props for making Manoa Geeks happen for all of us each month and thanks for coming down.

See you around!
Aloha,
John
