IN MEMORIAM
- Dickie Kaiawe, my Great-Uncle, whom we’ll miss dearly (April 3)
and
- The Hawaii Superferry, at least as a Hawaii-based business (March 28, but reported March 30)
HAWAII
- Props: Local clothing store Hawaiian Moon for having more of the print we are using for the wedding in stock. That allowed us to add more people to the wedding party and double our order, to include matching prints for parents.
- Slops: This is a bit out-of-character, but I don’t have anything to write here.
GEEK/TECH/BLOG
- Props: This study for noting that “Internet Leisure Browsing” (commonly confused with “goofing off at work”) is actually a helpful distraction.
- Honorable Mention: Skype for releasing their iPhone app. Now if only AT&T would allow us to use it on their 3G network (right now it has to be on a Wi-Fi connection). If you haven’t used Skype, it’s a great (free!) service that allows you to do VoIP (voice over internet) calls.
- Slops: This is a bit out-of-character, but I’m going to reserve comment on the biggest news item this past week: the U. S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Hawaii v. OHA. Even for me, I think it may hit a little too close to home (er, work) for comfort.
POLITICS/GOVERNMENT
- Props: Big Island Mayor Billy Kenoi’s Office of the Mayor for starting a Hawaii County News site. I wonder if utilizing a sleek blog layout has anything to do with former reporter and blogger, and current Public Information Officer Hunter Bishop being on staff. This tip to Hawaii247.org for the tip.
- Honorable Mention: The Hawaii Department of Taxation for starting a new website that will publicly identify the largest tax delinquents in the state. If legal recourse won’t work, I’m pretty sure a public shaming will!
- Slops: Again, this is a bit out-of-character, but I’m going to reserve comment on the biggest news item this past week: the U. S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Hawaii v. OHA. Even for me, I think it may hit a little too close to home (er, work) for comfort.
PROP AND SLOP OF THE WEEK
- Prop of the Week: The Iowa Supreme Court for unanimously striking down a law that banned same-sex marriage. Now if only Hawaii could move closer to that reasonable way of thinking.
- Slop of the Week: So with no comment on Hawaii v. OHA, that leaves this video coverage of Steve Holmes accusing Ikaika Anderson of padding his resume as the Slop of the Week. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!
That’s it for this week. Be sure to visit next week for another edition of Props and Slops, my favorite feature on Capsun’s Corner.
Mahalo!

Thom: Mahalo for the condolences
Pomaikai: I hope to have a post up about same-sex marriage/civil unions later this week.
