,Note: I really felt good about doing a Props-only Props and Slops last week, so I’m going to do that again this week. Hopefully there will be some Slop-worthy news for next week.
IN MEMORIAM
- Bea Arthur, “Dorothy” from The Golden Girls (April 25)
HAWAII
- Props: Hawaii for having the nation’s highest screening rate for chlamydia. Yes, this is a Prop; it might be a Slop if we had the highest incidence rate.
GEEK/TECH/BLOG
- Props: Mobile blogging service Twitter, who had a busy week in the news. It helped journalist Peter Wilkinson (@peter_wilkinson) Tweet the London Marathon. It also allows users to Tweet using electrical impulses generated by thoughts. And it’s also helping Iraq embrace new media.
- Honorable Mention: Apple’s App Sotre for selling its 1 billionth App.
POLITICS/GOVERNMENT
- Props: The State’s Department of Taxation for posting delinquent taxpayers on a new website.
- Honorable Mention: Tammy Duckworth, McKinley and UH graduate, for being confirmed Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
PROP AND SLOP OF THE WEEK
- Prop of the Week: KGMB9,(@KGMB9), one of the good things about Hawaii, for starting Hawaii’s first interactive news broadcast. I’ve been enjoying the 5 pm broadcast so much, I rush home after work to watch it. You should also follow @i9News, the dedicated account for the 5 pm newscast. Don’t worry, if you’re still at work at 5, you can watch it online at KGMB9.com where they stream it using Mogulus. And this is the Prop of the Week not just because Jared quoted me on his blog or put my Tweet on the air - but that’s the point of having an interactive newscast and effectively engaging in social media.
That’s it for this week. Be sure to visit next week for another edition of Props and Slops, my favorite feature on Capsun’s Corner.
Mahalo!

Thom: You don't need to stop criticizing Twitter on my account. I know others who share your views, so I plan to write a post about it in the future. As for the KGMB9 5 pm broadcast, you can use Twitter or email your comments to them for potential posting during the show.
