Is it a “Contest” if Only One Person Enters?
Nov 12th, 2009 by Capsun
Last week, I wrote a post on a contest to give away Google Wave invites. At the time, I thought these were highly coveted, or at least more desirable than most invites of this sort. As you can tell from the title of this post, I only received one entry, so maybe these aren’t as sought-after as I was led to believe.
Granted, I did receive two comments, but the first one didn’t follow the guidelines for the contest, so was disqualified. Don’t worry, I told I replied and told him to review the contest rules to enter.
So, by default, the other entrant, Ilihia, wins. But he wrote a very thorough response, so I don’t want you to think that his entry was not deserving of this award. In fact, when it first came in, I knew it would be one of the three winners, I just didn’t know it would be the only one of three winners.
Here is Ilihia’s winning entry:
I didn’t believe that web-based email could be worth a damn until Gmail came along. Even in its earliest incarnations, it wiped the floor with the likes of Yahoo! and Hotmail. And that was just the beginning of my love for Google products.
In my department, we use Google Docs, Google Calendar, and Google Sites to stay on the same page with each other – sure, we have Exchange, but trying to use it is like stapling air: what’s the point?
As a writer, I use Google Earth pretty darn often to find stuff and measure distances. Most recently: 1.2 miles from Keaukaha School to the Hilo airport terminal, the distance walked by the keiki during Monday’s tsunami drill.
Indeed, I Google quite often.
Congratulations Ilihia – I’ve submitted a nomination with your email address to Google Wave. Other nominations I’ve sent have taken about five days to receive their invites from the Google Wave team, so hopefully you can expect the same turnaround time.
Thanks for playing and Happy Waving!
Mahalo!

Woohoo! Mahalo buddy! Since I wrote that, I discovered Google Street View on O’ahu and Maui – the subject of my next Native Tech column in Ka Wai Ola Loa…
Congrats Ilihia on the win. Cap, old buddy old pal. LOL. I do believe you recieved more than 2 comments LOL I’m going to look more at this Google Wave this weekend
Where the heck does time go when you need it.
