About Capsun
Oct 29th, 2008 by Capsun
Aloha and welcome to Capsun’s Corner! Mahalo (thank you) for stopping by. Don’t forget to read about how this all got started. Now, let me share some information about me and this blog.
I’m an emeritus member of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents (my big claim to fame!), a self-confessed political junkie, and a lover of Apple, Mac, & iPhone products – who was born and raised in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii and is Native Hawaiian. I guess I can also say that I’m a blogger. Previously, I’ve worked at the Hawaii State Legislature, for a Member of Congress, and in the non-profit sector; I currently work at a State agency. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Administration, but I’m not sure if that makes me more or less qualified in my reader’s eyes.
I have extensively studied politics, policy-making, and legal and social ramifications of legislative affairs. I also have a special interest in bureaucracies and policy formulation within a historical context. However, this is not just an academic discussion as I have always applied this knowledge to my personal and professional lives, leading me to be actively involved in my community and grassroots civic efforts, having worked my first campaign at the age of ten.
I plan to write about things of interest to me – including Hawaii (whatever that encompasses), tech stuff (maybe, and then only if I understand it), and politics/government (I am a political junkie, after all) – and share my take on them. My policy on comments is to approve them all, with the exception of personal attacks or profanity, which have no place in Capsun’s Corner and will be deleted. From October 29, 2008 to February 27, 2009, I wrote daily. Since then, I strive for five posts a week, but allow myself to get by on as few as three.
You can find me online on: Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Or, you can email me at c@capsun.org (that’s c [at] capsun [dot] org).
Please note: The views expressed here are mine and mine alone. While I am employed by and affiliated with organizations and individuals, permission has neither been asked nor granted to write on the topics discussed here.
Mahalo!

Mino’aka,
I love your blogs they are not only informative but fun and easy to read. We can relate to the information given. I especially love the shot of Pu’uhonua. It brings back great memories of events and people that were shared there. Also, you didn’t add that not only was it our stomping ground but the meeting place for mom and dad as well. Keep doing the great work that you’re doing on keeping us updated and informed.
a hui hou,
Shawna
Shawna: Glad to see you visiting and commenting on my site. And I’m especially glad that I can share my thoughts with you and others.
Sorry it took so long to reply back. I tried visiting your site on Tuesday and couldn’t bring up the page. Although back to the message, I enjoy reading what you have to say because I can imagine your expressions behind your messages…lol.
Sup, Capsun! Like the blog and the picture of Hale o Keawe! Keep up the good work.
Kepano: Mahalo for stopping by, for the comment, and for your readership. When I migrated to my own domain, I wanted a Header that would reflect my roots, which I think it does.
Wow, Capsun, in the weeks leading up to, and immediately following your wedding, I feel like I’ve learned so much about you. Granted, I’ve found myself reading up on your site … (thanks to your wedding detail reminders, and dad’s keen sense of website promotion at your reception.) lol.
Bravo… keep it coming… and when you’re running the country out in DC, don’t forget us little people (um … that is to say, me and my Vinh! haha)
Thanks!
